Chachi Carvalho

Chachi Carvalho is a multi-talented artist and educator who comes from a long line of musicians and singers. He is a native born-and-raised Rhode Islander with roots that stem from the islands of Cabo Verde. Throughout his career, he’s won acclaim from Vibe magazine in its roundup of the best MCs state to state, and he was a two-time winner of the Wild Out Wednesdays competition on BET’s 106 & Park. Chachi was also awarded the 2014 Cape Verdean Music Award for best hip-hop act. He is a registered artist-educator with Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and a registered touring artist with New England Federation of Artists. He is a former board member of AS220, a current member of the Advisory Council for the AS220 Youth program, and is extremely excited to hit the ground running as a newly elected member of the Pawtucket Arts Festival Board of Directors.

His previous album releases, In Dust Real Evolution (2012), Cape Verdean In America (2013), Brand New Vintage, with his group Thr33 Piece Suit (2014) were all well received in numerous markets. His recent wave of accomplishments includes a debut performance in his hometown at the 2017 Pawtucket Arts Festival, performances at Rhode Island’s premier music festival, PVD Fest, as a headline performer 3 years consecutively, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Atlantic Music Expo in Praia, Cabo Verde, the Moshito Music Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, performances at the top music festivals in the Cape Verde Islands over the past 5 years including Baia Das Gatas (2014 & 2016) and Festival Badja Ku Sol (2015), and lecture/ performances at Roger Williams University, Trinity College, Providence College, UMASS Boston, Brown University and Harvard. He also delivered the keynote address at the 2017 Shea High school graduation, where he started his music career in the early 90’s.

Chachi recently released a new album, Rapfrohouse (2018), as a free download to all of his loyal fans around the world. He also released an EP project, The Human Factor, entirely produced by long time friend J. DePina and has a 2nd EP ready to go entitled Sensitive Dependence, entirely produced by the multi-talented Wattz, ready for release later this spring. Year after year, Chachi finds a way to reinvent himself as an artist, an educator, and a man. He continues to carve out his legacy and leave his mark on the world through musical inspiration and community organization.
